Terrace and Terrace Massive

Terrace planks made of wood polymer composites (WPC) are innovative, non-splintering and easy to maintain. We show you how to maintain the planks properly and with little effort, so that your WPC terrace will still look good even after many years.

The effects of the weather, beverage or food stains – terraces are constantly exposed to adversities. However, to prevent these from causing long-term damage, the terrace boards should be cleaned and maintained regularly so that they keep their attractive appearance for a long time. This also applies to terrace systems made from the Twinson wood-plastic composite. Although Twinson is a very low-maintenance material, these terrace planks nevertheless require regular care. To remove dirt and to prevent moss from growing, we recommend cleaning with a solution of chlorinated water or a mixture of water and household detergent.

However, outdoor factors such as rain showers mainly only cause unattractive stains with tide marks if only parts of the terrace are exposed to the long-term effects of the weather. Dust, dirt and pollen can accumulate if the terrace is partly covered. When combined with water, these deposits can cause water stains with dark edges. However, if the entire surface of the terrace is exposed to the elements all the time, dirt and dust particles are washed away by the rain. For this reason, the terrace should be repeatedly and thoroughly washed with water. A mild detergent and a soft brush are perfectly suitable for this.

Cleaning WPC terraces following initial installation

Immediately after installation, some steps are required to enable you to get many years of enjoyment from your terrace. An initial WPC cleaning with a mild mixture of water and household detergent and a soft brush removes dust and dirt. The terrace is then rinsed with a high-pressure cleaner. Attention: Maintain a minimum distance of 30 cm and do not work with more than 100 bar pressure. It is also important to always clean parallel to the grooves. Also, shortly after installation, you should try not to push or pull any furniture or other heavy objects across the terrace surface. If scratches nevertheless occur, their colour will over time blend in with that of the terrace surface. One particularly practical aspect of Twinson is the natural protection of the material – it needs no additional varnishing or impregnating.
The colour of the material can change within the first 12 weeks due to UV radiation or water. However, after this period the colour change has normally stabilised and will no longer alter markedly.

Immediately after installation, the WPC should be cleaned using a high-pressure cleaner in the direction of the grooves.

Cleaning specific stains with a suitable terrace cleaner

If there's a mishap at a family dinner or a big barbecue party, there's no need to immediately fear the worst. Depending on the nature and type of the substance causing the stain, there are special cleaning tips for terrace boards so that you can clean your Twinson terrace and prevent permanent staining.

Burn marks, caused by such things as charcoal or cigarettes, can be sanded away. For this it is best to use a steel brush, fine sandpaper or something similar. Important: Always scrub in the direction of the grooves so as not to attack the material!

Food remains/stains from coffee or tea, cola or fruit juice:
Large families in particular can make stubborn stains from food remains. These include fruit, red wine, tomatoes, spaghetti sauce or ketchup. These stains should be treated with a diluted solution of chlorinated water. Scrub the stain thoroughly and then rinse with water. If the stain is very stubborn, the high pressure cleaner can then also be used.

Stains caused by Deceuninck cleanup, graffiti cleaner, alkalis or acids should be sanded off using fine sandpaper or a steel brush. This also applies to stains caused by organic solvents such as MeCl, isopropanol or acetone.

If vegetable or animal fats and oils – such as butter, yoghurt, mayonnaise, engine oil, sun creme or petrol come into contact with Twinson, use the special "Clean" cleaning agent to clean the terrace. Simply spray it onto the stain, leave it to take effect for a short time and then rinse it away with water. "Clean" can also be used on dried-in materials such as candle wax or glue.

Basic tips for cleaning terraces correctly

Here you will find some additional useful tips covering all aspects of caring for and cleaning your WPC or Twinson terrace. Whether it's ice, snow or scratches,  these helpful instructions offer a solution to every problem.

Changes due to snow or ice
Special rock salts or calcium chloride can be used to remove snow and ice from your terrace both very quickly and without any great effort. These melt snow and ice in a matter of seconds. It is less recommendable to use snow clearing equipment made of metal because this can damage the terrace.

Removing scratches
The first step when removing scratches is to moisten the scratched surface to prevent the area being worked on from brightening. Sand the scratches away using sandpaper or steel wool in the direction of the grooves. Dust and dirt must be removed next.

If you regularly follow the care and cleaning instructions for Twinson, you will have many years of enjoyment from your Twinson terrace!
